Oak and maple desk. Solid oak and maple, no nails or screws used (except the drawer hardware and to attach the top)
This was a really fun project. I love the combination of maple and oak.
The desk is my design, pieced together from ideas and photos of a lot of other furniture.
Solid oak boards, 4cm thick glued with floating tenons. Finished weight (just the top) around 35 kg.
Oak, Oak and more Oak.
I was worried about the weight and that moving it could cause the joints in the stretchers to fail under the racking stress when carried by 2 people.
I used double 80x10mm blind tenons on each stretcher-to-leg joint and added an additional stretcher mid-height across the back. If that doesn't hold, nothing will.
When the top is attached it doesn't matter, only when carried without it.
